How can I extend my stay on my own?

The information you need is in our guide section!

Frequently asked questions?

The earliest you can start is 60 days before your current residence permit expires.
You will receive a residence permit valid for 2 years. After living in Spain for a total of 5 years, you can apply for a 5-year permanent residence permit.

In addition to the standard document package, note that the immigration office may request additional bank statements or tax information when reviewing your renewal application for digital nomads. If you are registered as a sole proprietor (self-employed), be prepared that in 80% of cases invoices are requested additionally.

Make sure all taxes in Spain and social security contributions are paid correctly and on time.

If you originally applied as an employee and now plan to continue as a sole proprietor, you will need to apply anew rather than renew. In other words, you get the nomad residence permit from scratch.
Renewal for family members follows the same procedure as the initial application: collect documents and submit them along with the main applicant’s portfolio. Instead of marriage and birth certificates, you can submit informal declarations confirming you continue living together.
As with the initial application, there are no country restrictions. The main thing is to prove that the company or contractor has existed for more than one year and that you have been working with them for over 3 months.
