Yes, spouses and children can move with you. Applications are submitted simultaneously with the main applicant (even if the family member is not in Spain) or after approval of the main permit. The second option takes longer but also works.
If you and your partner are not officially married, you can register a civil partnership (pareja de hecho) in Spain. Parents or adult children can be included only if you provide proof of their financial dependence on you.
Yes, but there are nuances. It is important to prove the project’s innovativeness. For example, if your business has existed since 2015, add technological development: proprietary software, AI, or other digital solutions. Spain is interested in projects with growth potential and economic benefit.
Note that traditional business types, such as restaurant chains or beauty salons, do not meet startup residence permit criteria. However, projects related to promising sectors like medicine, fintech, or logistics significantly increase your chances.
No, to apply for a self-employment residence permit, you must have a valid legal status (e.g., a student residence permit). A tourist visa does not allow status change.
Regarding other residence permit types: students can apply if less than 60 days remain before their current permit expires, but no later than 90 days after its expiration. For startups and digital nomads, applications can be submitted after 1 year of holding the current permit.
If you initially had a permit with work authorization (e.g., startup permit or nomad with autónomo status), after conversion you will get a residence permit for 4 years.
If you were a nomad employed by a company or held a non-lucrative residence permit, after conversion you’ll first be approved for 1 year, then for 4 years upon renewal.
Yes, university students can work but only under certain conditions: no more than 20 hours per week during study periods and up to 40 hours per week during holidays.
Language course students must request a separate work permit. After obtaining it, they can work up to 20 hours per week.
