Receiving certificates and jurado translations FAQ

A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is an official translation of documents certified by a sworn translator accredited in Spain. This translation is required when documents submitted to Spanish authorities are in a foreign language. Sworn translations are necessary for submitting documents for a residence permit, validating educational diplomas, legal documents, and other important paperwork.
In most cases, documents issued outside of Spain must be legalized or apostilled (depending on the country) before they can undergo a sworn translation. Legalization confirms the authenticity of the document for use in Spain. The apostille is placed in the country where the document was issued, and then it is translated and certified by a sworn translator.
To apply for a residence permit in Spain, you generally need the following documents: your passport, a criminal record certificate from your country of residence, a medical certificate, proof of income or financial means, and proof of accommodation (such as a rental contract or property ownership). The list of required documents may vary depending on the type of residence permit, so it is advisable to check the specific requirements with the Spanish consulate or immigration office.
