Situations vary, and we understand that. Some people may be stuck in another country, unable to return, or simply don’t want to do so for the sake of one document. Can you obtain a Digital Nomad visa for Spain remotely? In today’s article, we will explore this.

Direct Answer to the Question

You can apply for a Digital Nomad visa in the country where you have residency and where there is a Spanish consulate offering this procedure. There aren’t many such consulates around the world.

For the application itself, you will need the standard set of documents required for a freelancer/self-employed person/employee. The only additional thing you need to include is proof that you have residency in the country from which you are applying. For example, in the UAE, you can only apply if you have an Emirates ID.

What if I Don’t Have Residency?

If you cannot travel to your home country, we recommend obtaining a Schengen visa. In a limited number of countries, you can apply for a visa without local residency. One such option is Armenia, where you only need to apply for a social card (a social security number, SSN).

What is a social card? It’s a paper or plastic document with a 10-digit individual code, which takes up to 5 days to process. You will only need a notarized translation of your passport into Armenian, a copy of the translation, a copy of your passport, the original passport, and an entry stamp into Armenia. In our experience, applicants have received their social cards within 1-2 days, and with them, they were able to submit their documents for Spain in Armenia.

For Russian citizens, another “advantage” of obtaining a visa in Armenia is that the documents are sent for processing to the Spanish consulate in Moscow. If you prepare your documents correctly, you have a higher chance of approval.

Conclusions

Of course, obtaining a visa for Spain abroad will be more challenging, especially if you don’t have the relevant residency. We even recommend applying for the Digital Nomad residency in Spain itself to avoid unnecessary paperwork and save your nerves.
