Temporary residence permit for students in Spain

A temporary residence permit can be requested both for language courses of ~ 40 weeks (10 months) and for university studies that may last more than a year.

Other university programs, internships, volunteer programs, secondary vocational education and secondary and high school education are also suitable.

In this article, we'll talk about the most popular destinations:

Language courses
University education programs for adult applicants.

The main requirements are:

To be enrolled at the university in one of the following areas: bachelor's, master's degree, postgraduate studies, postgraduate... It is possible to study in English. The main thing is that the program should be full-time (tiempo completo).

OR enroll in Spanish language courses accredited by the Cervantes Institute for a full-time program, with an academic load of at least 20 hours per week. You can view the list of accredited language schools here: guia.pdf
Show savings in the amount of 7,200 euros for one year (for the main applicant). It is possible to show money in foreign accounts, not necessarily in Spanish.
The maximum period of stay for a student TRP is 2 years. After this period, you can renew your temporary residence permit, modify it into a regular residence permit to find a job in Spain (issued for 2 years), or modify it to another type of residence permit (nomad or startup). You can extend the TRP 60 days before the card expires, or within 90 days after its expiration. It is possible to modify a residence permit only while the temporary residence permit is still valid.
While taking language courses, it is possible to obtain a part-time work permit. University students receive this right automatically.
After successfully completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree, you can obtain a residence permit with the right to work.
If you have a family (spouse and/or children), they can come to Spain and live without the right to work. At the same time, the validity period of their documents will be linked to your permission.

Submission of documents:

From your country of citizenship/residence:
To do this, you must personally contact the Spanish consulate or visa center in the country where you officially reside. In this case, a study visa will be pasted into your passport, which you can then exchange for a TRP student card in Spain. Please note that some consulates do not issue such visas to applicants over 30 years of age. For example, the Spanish visa center in Armenia.

From Spain:
To obtain a student visa to Spain, you can use the easiest way: come on a Schengen visa or under a visa-free regime (depending on your country of citizenship).

Attention! To apply, you must have at least 1 month of the Schengen or Schengen period left to legally stay in Spain. Thus, it is not possible to apply for a student TRP with a 15-day Schengen visa.

You can apply for a student TRP through the Mercurio online migration service platform using the Spanish CLAVE electronic digital signature.

The review period takes an average of 3 months from the date of submission of the dossier, but in practice, student TRPs can be considered up to 5 months.

While the case is being considered, the applicant is legally in Spain, even if his visa has expired. At the same time, it is impossible to travel to Europe in this status. In other words, the legitimacy of the stay is limited only to Spain.

It should be noted that after receiving approval, it will take about another 10 days to find a fingerprint slot to the police, and another 35 days they produce a TRP plastic card, which you will need to pick up in person at the police station.

If you need a CLAVE signature for submission, feel free to contact us. We provide our digital signature for submission.

The price of the service is €100.
